Steamship Mutual calls for 4% General Increase for 2027 Renewal & appointment of new Director

Partage

In light of the volatility in large claims and the impact of inflation on underwriting results, together with other factors, the Club has decided to implement a 4% general increase in premium ratings across all classes of business.

Any changes to the IG’s reinsurance programme will also be passed on to Members as usual.

In view of the increase in free reserves to $578M at the start of the year, with projection for further strengthening at year end, the Club will make a Capital Distribution of approximately $39M to Members. This will be allocated as 10% of the 2026 P&I mutual premium paid, for vessels, or share thereof, renewing on 20 February 2027 (subject to regulatory approval).

In addition, the club has announced the appointment of a new Director, Andreas Hadjipetrou, of Columbia Shipmanagement, joining the Bermuda Club and Europe Club Boards (subject to regulatory approval). Following a review of open policy year development and the Club’s overall financial position, Release Calls for mutual Class 1 P&I and Class 2 FD&D entries remain unchanged:

  • 2024/25: 5% (unchanged)
  • 2025/26: 10% (unchanged)
  • 2026/27: 10% (unchanged)

The Club’s renewal position is outlined in their London Renewal Circular and Europe Renewal Circular.
